Famous for their “patatas bravas” (potatoes with a spicy sauce). We liked it, but of course, don’t expect anything more than patatas bravas. This bar is huge, so much so that it comes across as not being very friendly. Even so, you have to go.

There is little new to say about “El Tigre”. Almost everyone knows it for giving a ton of tapas with a 2.00€ caña. It’s not one of our favorites, because it’s almost impossible to get in, but we recognize that it’s one of the best known tapas bars in Madrid.

Bar muy conocido entre la gente del barrio, los camareros son simpáticos. En la barra se pueden tomar cañas normales con tapa pero merece la pena tomarse un par de dobles y disfrutar de buen tapeo como el pincho de tortilla o canapés de jamón.

Bar agradable, muy espacioso y limpio. Sin embargo, es difícil de localizar, ya que no se ve desde la calle San Bernardo. Las abundantes tapas y el trato de los camareros hacen de este bar un lugar muy recomendable.

Yes. Such is Bar Akelarre. It is decorated with flags of Real Madrid around the bar, photos of bullfighters and a few pictures of Rayo Vallecano (a Madrid soccer team). Apart from the decor, the tapas are traditional and plentiful, and the atmosphere is authentic.

Bar El Rincón de Jaén

By itself, it is striking that they serve you seafood as a tapa, even more so when it is accompanied by additional pescaito (small fried fish) or calamares (squid). Furthermore, although the caña is expensive, it is well poured and well worth a visit.

Bar La Blanca Paloma

Paying 2.50€ for a “doble” (double caña) in Moncloa is painful, but they serve the same tapas in all of La Blanca Paloma bars: a good quantity and variety but of questionable quality. Always very friendly and ideal for spending extended hours in the area.

A special bar.  A beautiful place with great atmosphere and excellent service.  They serve “tercios” (33 cl. bottle) of Heineken and Alhambra Reserva 1925 that come with plentiful, excellent quality tapas.  Without a doubt, we recommend it.

Small tapa with each caña, but what calls attention to this bar is the immense variety of tortilla española (potato omelette).  They have tortillas ranging from stuffed roquefort (a French blue cheese) to bacon and cheese.

Excellent canned and pickled snacks and perfect cañas.  The tapas are very small, but all of the food that they serve is of high quality.  We recommend the mejillones (mussels) and los boquerones en vinagre (anchovies in vinegar).

Like El Urogallo in Príncipe Pío.  Good tapas in both quality and quantity in an awesome location, located in front of the lake in Casa de Campo.  Furthermore, they have a nice terrace for enjoying cañas outside.

Bar Torres

One of those lovely yet grimey bars, (hence known as “The Filthy Torres”). However, the chicken wings scattered on the floor are forgotten with the friendly service from the owner and above average tapas from the bar. Furthermore, it is one of the few places that serve a tapa with a cocktail.

Bar Los Aperitivos

Very similiar to “Los Amigos” and “Los Enemigos”, i.e. lots of tapa choices with your caña. But in this case, both the quality and quantity of the tapas are worse. Furthermore, 2.50€ for the jarrita (mug) of beer seems excessive to us.

Bar Sapama

Many people won’t like the well-known Bar Sapama. It always bothers us that we have to order tercios (33 cl. bottles of beer), since they don’t offer small ones, and the quality of the tapas is average at best, but we are captivated by the neighborhood, with its atmosphere of elderly seniors.

Famous for their fries and sauce, they serve beer in tubo (tall, cyllindrical glasses) and jarras (mugs) at very reasonable prices with fairly acceptable tapas. Ideal for soccer games and a nightcap. That said, expect a lot of people.

Bar Mareas Vivas

A classic bar in the center of Madrid that is sometimes overshadowed by the other popular bars in the area. The cañas are cheap, the tapas are plentiful and the atmosphere is young. Two drawbacks: the quality of the tapas is average and it’s busy during “caña hour” (from 1:30 to 3 p.m.).

Modern bar with a Galician-Portuguese kitchen, a young atmosphere and quality raciones (large portion tapas that you pay for). The tapas are reasonable, and they have a beer tap at every table so that you can pour your own cañas (not recommended since they will not serve you as many tapas).

There are good quality, albeit small tapas at the bar. Good tortilla (potato omelette) and above all, great deals: 15€ for 10 tercios (33 cl. bottles of beer) with a ración (larger-sized tapa). Furthermore, you can rent out the bar for celebrations and the service is unbeatable.

Just when we thought they had given us a lot of tapas with our first caña, they gave us an additional fried egg per person. Good tapas in a great location. The only downside is that they don’t have cañas, only jarras (mugs of beer).

Bar El Rincón Abulense

We liked it a lot. In a good area with quality assorted tapas. Every Friday they serve migas (a sort of bread crumb dish) and paella (a traditional rice dish with vegetables and meat or fish). The beer is a bit expensive.

Cervecería Deportiva

Perfect for watching soccer.  The owner was a journalist in Argentina and he has photos, jerseys and all kinds of souvenirs around the bar.  Surprising that in a bar like this, similiar to an Irish pub, they serve good tapas.

Bar El Boñar de León

Deserves a thorough explanation.  It is an unkempt and dirty bar, however, it has a certain charm.  Their tapas are the biggest you can find in Madrid although the quality is questionable.  We left the bar full of doubt, debating whether or not to never come back or make it a regular.

It doesn’t have that traditional, neighborhood atmosphere, but rather that of a cocktail bar.  Still, the cañas are well-poured and the tapas, although small, are original and delicious.  The cañas are very expensive.
